Lecture One We introduced ourselves and had an assessment exam. The syllabus, first two chapters of Mount's Bioinformatics: Sequence and Genome Analysis and an editorial by Pavel Pevzner. I couldn't find a static link, but the citation is P. Pevzner, Educating biologists in the 21st century: bioinformatics scientists versus bioinformatics technicians. 20(14):2159--2161 Bioinformatics 2004.
I also learned ISS (Instructional Support Services) doesn't provide technology--it's handled by UITS. The number I found was 855.8765.
The accepted papers to the VLDB workshop on Data Mining in Bioinformatics have been posted. Dr. Simon Mercer, the Bioinformatics Program Manager for External Research & Programs in Microsoft Research will be our guest speaker. - (edited September 3, 2006, 8:44 PM)
Met freshmen at Informatics and spoke about how exciting the class will be.

Met Candidate Dannie for Bioinformatics Director Position (lunch with Pedja)--went to Lennies.
Worked on helping educating new AIs directed by Marty with faculty:Dennis, Melanie, Jeff, and Matt. It took several hours, but it was an amazing experience I think for the group.

Worked with Matt and new AIs for I101 for lectures, laboratories, and responsibilities. They met from about 1:00pm on Sunday to at least 4:00pm. I drove one to the GPSO picnic at Bryan Park
Met [with] Geoffrey, Sun, Haixu, David, John, Pedja, & Matt for Life Science's Group. I am on the undergraduate committee and graduate admissions committee. The official announcments of other positions will be made presently.

Taught for Jim Holland Summer Enrichment Program in Biology which went very well. Nominated Jeff Gehlhausen for Microsoft Ambassador which he was selected and went to Redmond for several days.
Meet [with] Geology & Paloentology we now have more than 5K entries
Meet [with] Haixu, Andy, Yehia, and Hellena for association rule mining on spectra.
Complete working on tenure dossier.
