Informatics Technology Week at Bloomington Boys and Girls Club a hit
In late February, faculty, staff, and student volunteers from the School were on hand at the Boys and Girls Club in Bloomington for the inaugural Informatics Technology Week. The four-day after school event featured hands-on activities for kids ranging in age from 6 to 12. Club members participated in toy robot games, “how-to” sessions on building computers and making websites, an online scavenger hunt, and a session on musical technology.
“This type of program is exactly what we’re looking to build upon here at the Club,” said Boys and Girls Club executive director Jeff Baldwin. “We are grateful to the School of Informatics for bringing Technology Week to the Club. We have a lot of kids who are interested, but unfortunately don’t have access to these types of programs.”
Jeremy Podany, director of career services at the School said, “Bringing our expertise to the Club is a great way for the School to connect with the Bloomington community. Plus, we get a group of kids that otherwise might never have the chance to learn about Informatics, involved in and excited about opportunities in technology!”
