Faculty, staff and students walked more than 4,000 miles in October to raise money for Stepping Stones, a local nonprofit that provides transitional housing for homeless youth aged 16-20. Faculty and staff were matched against students in the competition. Students walked 4,317,216 steps to beat the 4,108,121 steps of the faculty and staff.
Sixty people from the School participated in the challenge by purchasing a pedometer and recording their daily step tally on Vive.ws, a new virtual health coach website.
“I was so pleased with the participation in this challenge. We had about 30 students and 30 faculty and staff actively participating and logging their steps, and many more donating to Stepping Stones. This was absolutely the most participation we have seen for a wellness activity since starting the Wellness Committee over a year ago,” said John Tweedie, Director of Administration and Finance and chair of the School’s Wellness Committee.
“We are very grateful to the School of Informatics and Computing for their efforts, which will benefit the youth we serve,” said Sheri Benham, Executive Director of Stepping Stones.
