Biography

Yvonne is internationally known for her work in the fields of human-computer interaction and computer-supported cooperative work and has published widely in both. She is interested in new paradigms for computing, especially ubiquitous, pervasive, and tangible interfaces. Her research focuses on augmenting everyday learning and work activities with interactive technologies. In particular, she designs external representations, especially dynamic visualizations, to support more effectively external cognition.

Yvonne has a joint appointment in Informatics and Information Science. Prior to this, she spent 11 years as a faculty member at the School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences (now the Dept. of Informatics) at Sussex University, UK. She continues to hold the position of professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. While at Sussex, she co-founded the internationally known interdisciplinary research center, called the Interact Lab, concerned with possible interactions between people, technologies and representations. Prior to this she was an assistant professor at the Open University and a senior researcher at Alcatel telecommunications company. She has also been a visiting scholar at UCSD and a visiting professor at Stanford University, at Apple Research Labs, and at the University of Queensland.
