Human Computer Interaction Design

Overview

Human Computer Interaction Design (HCI/d) is the branch of informatics that studies and supports the design, development, and implementation of humanly usable and socially acceptable information technologies. The goal of the field is to shape new media and tools that will support human use, augment human learning, enhance communication and lead to more acceptable technological developments at the individual and the social levels.

The Human-Computer Interaction Design (HCI/d) group, is an interdisciplinary community of students and faculty at the School of Informatics, Indiana University, Bloomington. We are dedicated to research and education in the fields of HCI and interaction design in its broadest meaning. Although the core of the group is the HCI/d faculty, we are in close collaboration with all our students in our research efforts. This brings our research to our courses and our students to our projects. The HCI/d program draws faculty from across campus and around the world to provide the appropriate blend of multi-disciplinary expertise required to study this new discipline. The group is currently under the coordination of Erik Stolterman, Professor of Informatics and Cognitive Science.
